Hurghada weather month by month
Is the weather in Hurghada good? Yes, it is. Does it ever rain in Hurghada? Yes, it does, but only a few days a year.
Most of us want to escape the winter and spend a holiday somewhere, where the weather is good and warm. If you are a person like this, then Egypt should be your next holiday destination.
The weather in Egypt, especially in the Red Sea area, is always good or at least decent. Raining is very rare in Hurghada. If it does rain, it usually doesn’t last for long.
In the pictures below the maximum and minimum average temperature in Hurghada Egypt.
The climate in Egypt is a subtropical desert, which means mild winters and extremely hot summers. During the summer temperatures may easily rise over +40 Celsius degrees (104 F) and in the winter night temperature can barely reach 10 Celsius degrees (50 F).
Here in this article, you’ll find all the important information about Hurghada weather by months from average temperatures to packing information.
What is the best time to visit Hurghada? What is the best month to visit Egypt?
The best time to travel to Egypt is from October to April. My favourite months are October, November, March and April.

Hurghada weather in December, January and February | The average temperatures
Even if you visit Egypt in the winter, when the weather is coldest, there will be very warm days when you can enjoy the Egyptian sun.
In the Red Sea area resorts like Hurghada, El Gouna, Sahl Hasheesh & Makadi Bay winters are warm and maximum average temperatures are over 20 Celsius degrees (68 Fahrenheit) even in the coldest months of the year.
The weather in Hurghada is coldest in December, January & February:
- DECEMBER max. 22 C (71.6 F) and min. 13 C (55. F)
- JANUARY max. 24 C (75.2 F) and min. 11 C (51.8 F)
- FEBRUARY max. 24 C (75.2 F) and min 12 (53.6 F)
If you travel to Hurghada during the winter months (December, January & February), prepare yourself for the cold nights and warm days. The coldest month of the year is January when the average temperature is only 17 Celsius degrees (62.6 F).
Especially evenings in the winter can be very chilly, mostly because it’s windy. Also, sandstorms are also possible.

What clothes to wear in Hurghada in December?
Pack up some warm clothes with you: a cardigan, a jacket, a hoodie, long pants, a scarf, socks or whatever makes you feel warm and cosy.
But remember, you aren’t travelling to Alaska (though it’s a common joke in the streets of Hurghada). Don’t fill your luggage with winter clothes, because you’re also going to need summer clothes.
Like said before, days are warm and sunbathing is possible in Hurghada in January and February. In case it’s a very cloudy day and you stay in the shadows you may feel cold, but if you stay under the sun, you’ll get tanned and red (if you don’t use lotion). The best time to stay on the beach is noon.
If you are travelling with small children, winter is the best time to travel to Hurgada with kids. Days are warm, and the sun is not too hot yet. You don’t need to worry about the sun all the time. It’s more relaxing for everyone.
If the pools in your hotel aren’t heated, some courage may be needed before swimming. If the pool is too cold for you, there is always room in the sea.
Seawater is still quite warm in December 24.5 Celsius degrees (76.1 F). The temperature goes as down as 22 C (71.6 F) in February and stars to increase again in March 22.5 C (72.5 F).

Hurghada weather in March, April and May | The average temperatures
After the winter the weather starts to get hotter in March, April and May. March, April and May are also the months when Khamsin wind is blowing. Khamsin wind is a strong wind, which causes sandstorms.
Nevertheless, March and April are one of the best months to visit Hurghada and Egypt. The weather is pleasant and not too hot yet.
In March you still need to wear some warmer clothes, especially in the evenings, since it’s not that hot yet. Pack thin sweater and pants in case it’s windy and chilly in the evenings.
Evenings in April may also be a little chilly, but probably you going to survive with just an extra scarf.
The temperature in Hurghada gets seriously hot in May. For some people, including me, the sun in May is getting too hot. I prefer to stay in the shadows from May until September.
A more detailed description about the hotness in Egypt from this post:
Hurghada average temperatures in March, April and May are:
- March max. 26 C (78.8 F) and min. 15 C (59 F)
- April max. 30 C (86 F) and min. 19 C (66.2 F)
- May max. 34 C (93. F) and min. 23 C (73.4 F)
Hurghada weather in June, July and August | The average temperatures
In the summer in Egypt is extremely hot. If you love the hot weather and enjoy the sun, you’ll get it in Egypt.
If you want to read a more detailed description about Hurghada summer weather, read this article:
Average maximum temperature in June, July & August in Hurghada are almost +40 Celsius degrees (104 F). Evenings are very hot, and minimum temperatures are over +25 Celsius degrees (77 F). That’s hot, right?
Even water in the Red sea isn’t refreshing in the summertime. The average seawater temperature is highest in August when the temperature reaches 29 Celsius degrees (84.2 F). Water temperature doesn’t drop below +20 Celsius degrees (68 F), even when it’s the coldest time of the year.
But no matter how warm the seawater is, still, the best thing to do in Hurghada in the summer is to lay on the beach.
If you visit Hurghada in the summer, instead of warm clothes pack up mosquito repellent. You’ll need it more. You can buy OFF-mosquito spray from Hurghada. And if the mosquitos get to your skin, there is an effective cream for mosquito bites available in the pharmacies. It doesn’t cost much.
Also, Aloe vera and other after-sun lotions are available in the pharmacies.
The hottest months of the year are June, July & August:
- June max. 36 C (96.8 F) and min. 26 C (78.8 F)
- July max. 37 C (98.6 F) and min. 28 C (82.4 F)
- August max. 37 C (98.6 F) and min. 27 C (80.6 F)

Hurghada weather in September, October and November | The average temperatures
After the sweaty and hot summer, AUTUMN is always more than welcome.
September is still hot month with an average maximum of 35 Celsius degrees (95 F). But luckily, October and November are cooler and also the best months to travel to Egypt.
High-season starts in October and lasts until April. If you can travel to Egypt at the beginning of October, do it. Then the temperatures are tolerable, and the big tourist groups haven’t landed yet.

Both October and November are also my personal favourite months in Egypt. The days are hot and the evenings are warm. You may even feel cold after the hot summer. It’s awesome. And there is no need for air-conditioning at nights, plus it’s nice to take a walk during the daytime, again.
For the evenings, it’s good to pack some warmer clothes, for example, a hoodie or cardigan. You may need them in the evenings especially in November.
- September max. 35 C (95 F) and min. 25 C (77 F)
- October max. 32 C (89.6 F) and min. 22 C (71.6 F)
- November max. 28 C (82.4 F) and min. 17 C (62.6 F)
